Father's Day

It is Father's Day and Mike has enjoyed treats from church and a special dinner of Jumbalaya. (Something I had never cooked before, but he really likes because it has so much flavor)
Just thought I would post a few things because we are leaving for Ohio tomorrow and I won't be back for two weeks. Mike's sister is moving from Provo to the Phillipeanes in another year, but is visiting Ohio right now, so we are going to meet them there since it may be the last time we see them for several years. Mike plans to go to Cedar Point, an amusement park with AWESOME rollar coasters and Lydia will get to play with ALL of her cousins! We will celebrate Lydia's 2nd birthday while there as well. It should be a fun trip!

Today while at church I was asked if I was having twins! This is what I was wearing when I was asked that. I still have two months to go! How can I get bigger!?

For Family Home evening last week we had a lesson on being happy and how icecream cones can make us happy, but things like family will keep us happy forever. I think Lydia's favorite part of the lesson was the icecream cone rather than the moral.

The profession of Motherhood

I consider my full-time task as a homemaker a career, not just an easy way out of the work force. I try to ask myself, what am I doing to improve myself and to help my husband and child? Am I teaching them anything? Am I succeeding as a mother as I would as a public relations professional? If I had a boss to report to, would I feel proud of what I am doing? With this attitude, I seek the counsel of you other professionals out there. I am seriously lacking in the laundry department of my job. I get it done, but all I do is throw it in. Lately Lydia has demonstrated her ability to be a kid and stain her clothes. (marker and chocolate are the two most common culprits.) Do any of you have any sure fire tips on how you get out your stains? Any advice would be welcome and is sure to improve me as an employee of the Homemaker Force.

Changes

Lydia has had lots of changes lately. First off, I did decide to cut her hair. I just trimmed the back so she has a little bob. I'm glad I did it because now her hair doesn't look so scraggly.
Secondly, Lydia is now sleeping in a "big girl bed" We have been debating on when to do this for a long time, but finally just decided to get it over with. The baby will be coming and then we plan on moving and potty training will most likely start shortly after that, so we decided to knock one big thing off this growing list of big "changes" that seem to throw little ones off. Last night was Lydia's first night in her bad. We put the mattress on the floor in the afternoon and she was excited about it all day! She wanted to show us, play on it, have her stuffed animals sleep, etc. It only took a half hour of crying for her to fall asleep on her bed and she only got up once in the night. Not too bad I would say. She woke up around 8 this morning and walked out looking a little confused, but was once again excited when we started praising her for sleeping in her big girl bed. Even as I write this, she is taking her nap on her big girl bed. I have been a lucky parent to have such an easily adjustable child. I think that Heavenly Father knew that is what I would need to break me into parenting.

Fun in the Sun

Things are heating up here in Indiana and I am swelling up right along with it. Thank goodness for swimming pools, Popsicles, and fans! Lydia has been fascinated with buses and the song "The Wheels on the Bus" for a few days now, so on Saturday, Mike decided we should take her for a bus ride. She is waiting for the bus in her blue dress and sun hat. We took the bus to campus where Lydia had fun running and running and running through the fountain!

Yesterday was another hot day, so we hit the pool. I honestly don't know who enjoyed it more- me, or Lydia. It was great just to sit in the water!!
